PROGESTERONE in Oil

START THE DAY AFTER RETRIEVAL

Progesterone is supplied in a glass bottle with a rubber top. According to the amount you will be taking, one bottle should last 7-10 days. You will need at least 2 bottles to get you through to your pregnancy test. If your pregnancy test is positive, you will continue the Progesterone for approximately 5 more weeks. If your pregnancy test is negative, you will be instructed to discontinue the Progesterone and you should start your menses (period) in 1 - 2 weeks.

You were instructed to take...

  • 50mg = 1cc
  • 75mg = 1½ cc

DRAW-UP WITH THE PINK (18g 1 1/2in) NEEDLE: Using the syringe, insert 1cc 1 ½ cc of air into the bottle. Now, pull-up 1cc 1½cc of the medication. Because this is a ?vacuum pressure? bottle, this action will allow you to exchange air for liquid.

NEVER GIVE THE INJECT WITH THE 18g NEEDLE.

GIVE WITH THE BLACK (22g 1 1/2in) NEEDLE

NOTE:
  1. This injection is administered in the muscle of the upper-outer hip. Because the Progesterone is in oil (thick), the injection must be administered slowly.
  2. Progesterone should be give in the evening between 6pm & 10pm.
  3. Pain at the injection site is common. It is recommended that you alternate the hip sites.
  4. Notify the IVF Department if the injection site becomes... a. swollen, b. hard (lump), or c. red.
