Donor Egg Program

FFI has developed a large pool of healthy, bright, altruistic, and dependable egg donors. We are able to have very high success rates by limiting the age of our donors to less than 30 years old. Once a couple has decided to use an egg donor, Then the FFI doctors and Staff will present the various possible matches to the patients. Once a donor has been selected, she is thoroughly screened as per the guidelines of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. This includes HIV screen, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, and blood type. The donors are also screened for gonorrhea and chlamydia. In addition, psychological and genetic profiles may be obtained.

Once the donor is screened and found to be acceptable to the couple, the treatment begins with synchronization of the menstrual cycles. Daily subcutaneous injections of lupron, which start in the second half of the menstrual month; that is, around cycle day 21 are given. Lupron works by down regulating the communication between the pituitary and the ovary. The ovary shuts down so that the FFI doctors have complete control of the IVF cycle. Side effects are minimal from the lupron. The donor and recipient are seen in the office when they begin their menstruation while on the lupron. If the ultrasound and hormone levels are acceptable, then the stimulation is begun. The recipient beginsestrogen supplementation via pill or transdermal patch, which is gradually increased based on the ultrasound measurements of the lining of the uterus. The donor starts her gonadotropin injection to recruit multiple eggs. About 10-12 days later the eggs will be mature. The recipient continues estrogen and beginsprogesterone supplements. The donor undergoes ultrasound-guided egg retrieval under intravenous sedation by a FFI anesthesiologist. The recipients significant other provides a specimen and it is used to inseminate the eggs. The embryo transfer most commonly occurs 3-5 days later.

Egg donation cycles are kept in the strictest of confidence. Your anonymity is assured.
